Bangabandhu Tunnel Toll Rate List 2023 বঙ্গবন্ধু টানেলের টোল রেট তালিকা: The Bangladesh Bridge Authority (BRTA) has decided a list of how many tolls a vehicle has to pay to run inside the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Tunnel under the Karnaphuli River in Chattogram. According to this list, you have to pay 200 to 1000 rupees depending on the car.

Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader approved the proposed toll rate on December 20. It is now awaiting approval from the Ministry of Finance.

How much toll on a car in Bangabandhu Tunnel

According to the toll fixed by the bridge authority, private cars, jeeps and pickups will have to pay Tk 200 to go through the tunnel. Shah Amanat Bridge has to pay tk 75 for a private car and Rs 100 for a jeep. And if you want to walk inside the tunnel, you have to pay Tk 250 for the microbus. This rate is Tk 100 at Shah Amanat Bridge.

Buses with 31 or less seats will have to pay a toll of Rs 300 and for seats of 32 or more, a toll of Rs 400 will have to be paid. However, shah amanat bridge is charged Tk 50 and Tk 155 respectively.
To go through the tunnel, you will have to pay a toll of Tk 400 for a 5 ton truck, Tk 500 for a 5 to 8 ton truck and Tk 600 for an 8 to 11 ton truck. However, the toll on The Shah Amanat Bridge is Tk 130, Tk 200 and Tk 300 respectively. The toll for the trailer (four axles) has been fixed at Tk 1000. This rate is Tk 750 at Shah Amanat Bridge. If you have more than four Excels, you have to pay 200 rupees for each Excel.

Deputy Secretary of the Bridge Authority md. Abul Hasan told Prothom Alo over the phone that the toll rate of the tunnel has been determined by comparing it with the Shah Amanat Bridge and various bridges in the country. However, it is still proposed. It will require the approval of the Ministry of Finance. The Law Ministry will wait. It will then be finalized after the approval of the Prime Minister’s Office. In the meantime, the toll rate may change.

According to the feasibility study of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Tunnel, an average of 28,305 vehicles will ply every day in 2025 after the tunnel is opened. Apart from this, the traffic movement has been estimated at 37,946 in 2030 and the target of vehicles in 2067 has been set at an average of 1,62,000 per day.

However, if the toll rate of the tunnel is not kept at a tolerable level, the drivers will be reluctant to use it, said Delwar Majumder, former chairman of the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB) Chattogram Center. He told Prothom Alo that shah amanat bridge is an alternative to go to South Chittagong and Cox’s Bazar from all over the country including Dhaka. Therefore, the toll rate of this bridge has to be taken into consideration in determining the toll of the tunnel. If the toll rate becomes high, then the expected traffic movement will not be allowed in this tunnel made with this huge investment.
