HSC passed students will have to fight hard over preferred seats.13,06,718 students have passed the HSC and equivalent examinations of 2021. Among them, the highest indicator of the results, GPA-5, got 1,89,169 people. On the other hand, there are around 55,000 seats in public universities and government medical-dental colleges. Several students who have passed HSC said that all the students want to get admission in the preferred higher education institution. As such, the first choice is university and science students buet, medical college and Dhaka University.

UGC member Prof Muhammad Alamgir said that this time there will be no crisis in the field of seats in higher education. However, there will be a crisis in the case of quality educational institutions. 70% of our higher education seats are in affiliated colleges. Students are admitted there without getting a chance in a public university. On the other hand, students are waiting for admission to public universities. If you do not get an opportunity to get admission there, try to get admission to another affiliated college or private university.

Those concerned say that the number of quality private universities in the country is also not counted. Apart from this, more students have got a GPA of 5 compared to other years. The number of students between GPA-4 and 5 is also around six lakh. Many of them will compete with those who receive a GPA of 5. As a result, the students will have to fight for their preferred seat.

According to University Grants Commission (UGC) sources, the number of public universities in the country is currently 50. Khulna Sheikh Hasina Medical University and Kishoreganj Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman University are unlikely to start educational activities in the next academic year. Apart from this, Chandpur University of Science and Technology and Habiganj Agricultural University has plans to start the admission process of students from the next academic year.

And in four medical universities (BSMMU, Chittagong, Sylhet, and Rajshahi), post-graduate education is given. On the other hand, students are admitted separately in educational institutions affiliated to national universities, Islamic Arabic universities, and open universities. Apart from these 11 universities, the remaining 39 public universities have the opportunity to directly admit students.

These universities had around 55,000 seats last year. This time it has come down to 50,396. Seats from Dhaka University and Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman University of Science and Technology in Gopalganj have been reduced. Apart from this, the number of seats in government medical and dental colleges is less than 5,000. The interest of students is mainly around these schools.

Among the major universities, there are 6,085 seats in Dhaka University, 4,926 in Chittagong University, 4,693 in Rajshahi University, 2,133 in Jahangirnagar University, 2,756 in Jagannath University, and 1,215 in Bangladesh Engineering University in the next academic year.

Apart from this, about 2,05,000 seats are available in 100 of the 100 private universities, 8,72,815 in colleges affiliated to the National University, 60,000 in madrasas affiliated to The Islamic Arabic University, 77,756 in colleges affiliated to the Open University, 440 in two international universities, 23,330 in seven colleges affiliated to Dhaka University, 720 in 4 engineering colleges, 720 in 6 textile colleges.  There are 7,500 seats in private medical and dental, 5,600 in public and private nursing and midwifery institutions, 654 in 14 marine and aeronautical colleges, about 3,500 in various institutions affiliated to Dhaka, and Rajshahi Universities, and 290 in institutions affiliated to Chittagong University.
