Despite getting a GPA of 5, 12,000 students did not get a chance to get admission to college. Despite getting a GPA of 5 in SSC and equivalent examination, 12 thousand 160 candidates could not be selected for admission in the college. Of these, the highest number of 4,905 are from Dhaka Education Board, 1,438 from Comilla Board, 1,803 from Rajshahi, 275 from Jessore Board, 666 from Chittagong, 496 from Barisal, 83 from Sylhet Board, 1,564 from Dinajpur, 585 from Mymensingh Board, 165 from Madrasa Board and 7 from Technical Board.
Despite getting a GPA of 5, the students who did not get the opportunity to get admission to the college are all from the science stream. On Saturday evening, the education boards released the list of those selected in the first phase.
Professor Nehal Ahmed, chairman of the Dhaka Education Board, told our daily that there was a problem with the choice order of the students. Ten colleges have the opportunity to give choice but many have given only five. Although the marks are less, some have given the choice of five colleges of the top order but they do not have marks for those colleges.
For example, he said, a student first gave the choice of Dhaka College, then Adamji Cantonment, then Rajuk Uttara Model and Residential Model College. Those who gave such a choice were left out. The chairman said many of those selected in the first phase have also taken admission in missionary-run Notre Dame, Holycross, St Joseph’s, and St Gregory’s Colleges.
These four colleges have conducted admission tests. All other colleges and madrasas have been selected on the basis of results obtained in SSC and equivalent examinations instead of admission tests. Even if you get a GPA 5, you can get a chance to get selected in the second list from among the 12,000 who did not get the college for admission in the first phase. The second step is still there. So no one will be admitted. The chairman advised not to be disappointed.
