Chat GPT 4 Vs Ernie Bot: Artificial Intelligence (AI)-Powered Chatbot. Chinese tech giant Baidu has brought artificial intelligence (AI)-powered chatbot ‘Ernie Bot’ to the public as a competitor to ChatGPT. On Thursday, the company’s chief executive Robin Lee highlighted the chatbot’s technical expertise through a live stream press conference, saying Ernie Bot Baidu was “the result of decades of hard work”. On the occasion, an example of the chatbot’s mathematical reasoning decision-making ability was given.
Baidu launched its chatbot within a day of the launch of a new version of OpenAI’s ChatGPT-4, sponsored by Microsoft. Robin, the company’s chief executive, said the chatbot can determine whether the question is wrong or correct if the question is input into the Ernie bot. At the same time, the platform helps the user to find the right answer to the right question in certain steps.
At the press conference held in Beijing, a poster and video made by Ernie Bot were shown. At the same time, the chatbot can be seen suggesting a suitable place to do an event, publishing the plot of the science fiction novel in short form, as well as uttering words in Sichuan, the local dialect of Mandarin.
According to Baidu, Ernie Bot is more proficient in the language prevalent in China than in English. Baidu did not directly demonstrate the capabilities of Ernie Bot like ChatGPT in the press conference. An idea of its capabilities is given by showing a slide.
The new version of ChatGPT GPT-4 does not have new features such as creating text from pictures. Moreover, even after the announcement of bringing Ernie Bot to the market, Baidu did not see any positive results in the stock market. In this regard, Chinese technology expert Chim Li told Al Jazeera that there is still a lot of uncertainty about the capabilities of Ernie Bot. Open AI held a live-streaming conference of GPT-4. But Baidu couldn’t do that.
On the other hand, OpenAI has compared the performance of GPT-4, the new version of ChatGPT, to human capabilities in certain academic fields. Even the new version is claimed to be able to pass the Bar Council examination with good marks.
Technology expert Lee said that users’ expectations of the Ernie bot are very similar to ChatGPT. There are doubts about how much he will be able to meet the expectations of the new chatbot. He, however, praised Baidu for opening the chatbot as part of its competition with tech giants Google and Meta.
Around 650 important institutions such as China’s The Global Times newspaper, CITIC Bank, and the National Museum are planning to use the Ernie bot. At the same time, the Chinese government is also being encouraged to use this local chatbot.
On the other hand, Chinese technology giants Alibaba, Huawei, and JD.com have already announced the creation of their own chatbots. Since China has strict controls on the use of outside technology, local chatbots like Ernie Bot will gain popularity in the country despite technical limitations, according to technology expert Li.
