গ্যাসের দাম বাড়লো GAS Price Hike Bangladesh’s Energy and Mineral Resources Department has issued a notification increasing the price of gas used in industrial and commercial sectors. However, the price of gas in the transport sector and residential consumers has not been increased in this journey.

Traders say that the price of gas in the industrial sector has been increased excessively, which is likely to make it difficult to keep the factory running. However, researchers say that the price of industrial gas has been increased to reduce subsidies as part of the government’s agreement with the IMF to get the necessary credit support to deal with the economic crisis.

However, no one from Petrobangla and the Energy Department officially agreed to talk about the reason for the increase in gas prices.The public relations officer of the ministry told BBC Bangla that the ministry will make a formal statement later in this regard.

The energy and mineral resources department of the government has been holding discussions with various business organizations over the issue of increasing gas prices for the last few months.In these meetings, the traders voted in favor of fixing the price up to a maximum of Tk 22 per cubic meter. However, it has been increased much more.

According to the announcement of the Energy Department, the price of gas per unit in the big industrial sector has been increased from Tk 11.98 to Tk 30. On the other hand, the price of gas per unit for the industries’ own power plants has been increased to Tk 30, which was tk 16 earlier. Again, the price of gas in medium industries was Tk 11.78 and in small and cottage industries it was Tk 10.78. Now both sectors will have to pay Tk 30 per unit of gas. Apart from this, in the hotel and restaurant sector, instead of 26 taka 64 paise, 30 rupees 50 paise will be given from the next month.

That is, the government has increased the price of gas by two to three times in every sector except hotels and restaurants. Earlier, during a meeting with the government, the Bangladesh Textile Mills Association (BTMA) proposed to increase the price of industrial gas by 40 percent from Tk 16.33 per cubic meter to Tk 22.83. Basically, the biggest use of gas in the industrial sector in Bangladesh is in the textile factories. Bangladesh Textile Mills Association (BTMA) is the organization of these textile factory owners.
