History
Just Eat was founded in 2001 by five Danish entrepreneurs: Jesper Buch, Henrik Østergaard, Per Meldgaard, Klaus Nyengaard, and Christian Frismodt. The company initially operated as an online ordering platform for pizza delivery in Denmark, but it quickly expanded to include other types of cuisine and to operate in other countries.
In 2006, Just Eat merged with a similar company called Hungryhouse, which was founded in the UK in 2003. This merger allowed Just Eat to expand its operations in the UK, which has since become one of its largest markets. Just Eat also acquired several other companies over the years, including Australian food delivery platform Menulog in 2015 and Canadian food delivery platform SkipTheDishes in 2016.
In 2018, Just Eat merged with Amsterdam-based food delivery platform Takeaway.com in a deal worth £9 billion. The combined company, which is now known as Just Eat Takeaway.com, operates in 23 countries and has over 250,000 restaurant partners.
