A total of 37,574 candidates have been selected for the post of assistant teacher on the basis of the results of written and oral examinations for recruiting assistant teachers in government primary schools. The selected candidates must submit the necessary documents to the district primary education office by December 31. The highest number of candidates are going to be appointed in the history of the government primary school teacher recruitment program. Those who are going to join as assistant teachers, first need to know what the salary and facilities of this job are.

How much is the salary in any grade?
According to the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education, those who join as assistant teachers of government primary schools will initially be paid in the 13th grade (tk 11,000-26,590). The basic salary is tk 11,000. It includes house rent, medical allowance, tiffin allowance and travel allowance.

Allowances that are out of salary
Apart from the basic salary, a new assistant teacher will get Tk 1,500 as medical allowance, Tk 200 as tiffin allowance and Tk 300 as travel allowance. There’s also rent. However, there is some variation in house rent from area to region. For Dhaka City Corporation area, house rent is 60 percent of the basic salary. For Chattogram, Khulna, Rajshahi, Sylhet, Barishal, Rangpur, Narayanganj, Gazipur City Corporation and Savar Municipal Areas, 50 percent of the basic salary is rent. What is the total salary?
Ashraful Islam, an assistant teacher of a primary school in Rangpur, told that the new assistant teachers will get Tk 19,500 if they join the Dhaka City Corporation area. In Chattogram, Khulna, Rajshahi, Sylhet, Barishal, Rangpur, Narayanganj, Gazipur City Corporation and Savar Municipal Areas, the salary is Tk 18,500. In other places, the salary will be Tk 17,950.

Festival allowances
Every year, the salary will increase at the rate of 5 percent of the basic salary i.e. Tk 550. Two festival allowances equal to the basic salary in a year. That’s a festival allowance of Rs 11,000. There is 20 percent baishakhi allowance every year. In addition, teachers will get two time scales during their career.

Promotion
Abul Hashem, an assistant teacher of a primary school in Gazipur, told that although there is an opportunity to get promoted from assistant teacher to assistant headmaster and head teacher, in reality promotion is not much. Promotion is available subject to vacancies in the upazila. Many get their first promotion after 20 to 22 years of service. Some don’t get promoted throughout their career.

Other facilities
If you are sick, financial assistance is provided from the welfare fund for treatment. There is a pet quota for the child in the recruitment test of the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education. Subject to the qualification, you will get the opportunity to study abroad for one year.

The Department of Primary Education will pay the cost. After completing five years of service, you will be covered under pension. At the end of the service, you will get a lumprand equivalent to 18 months’ basic salary, one year PRL, 230 times the earned basic salary and lifelong family pension. Medical allowance of Tk 1,500. If you are above 65 years of age, the monthly medical allowance of pensioners will be Tk 2,500.
