This trend of price rise has started from the third week of January. The policy of the companies is that they do not increase the price of rods too much in one jump. Usually, they increase the price of the rod by Tk 500 per ton at a time. For example, on Monday this week, it has been increased by Tk 500 per tonne. Then on Wednesday, it was increased by Tk 500.

Within four or five months of the Russia-Ukraine war, the prices of many products in the world market began to fall. However, the exception is the raw material of the rod – the price of old iron pieces or old ships. Since the war, the price of this raw material has returned to pre-war prices last November. In November, the price of raw materials per tonne in the world market fell to $440-460. However, the price did not last more than a month. Gradually the price has increased again to more than $ 500.

The price of old ships, another source of raw material for rods, has also started rising again. According to a report last week by Greece-based Intermodal Shipbrokers, bangladesh’s ship-breaking industry owners bought three ships. The price of iron per ton of these three ships is $ 560, $ 585 and $ 616. Last December, the price of the old ship dropped to $505 per tonne.
