The work of issuing unique IDs to more than three crore students from primary to higher secondary level has finally started. However, first of all, the students of 60 primary schools will get this unique ID.
This ID will contain the information of a student’s entire educational life and will be able to use it for different needs. Moreover, on the basis of the information of this ID, he will be given National Identity Card (NID) later. He does not have to be re-registered.
Officials from the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education said that in the light of the implementation of Civil Registration and Vital Statistics (CRVS), unique IDs will be given to more than three crore students. This ID will have 10 or 16 digit student identification number. This information will then be coordinated with the student’s national identity card.
It is learned that an agreement has been signed with an institution on May 24 to create and save student profiles. In the first phase, the work of creating profiles of students of 60 government primary schools in different districts including Dhaka will be piloted. If successful, all primary school students in the country will be covered. They will be given a new ID in phases.

According to the source, as a result of creating student profiles and providing single unique ID, it is planned to use it in various activities including admission, transfer, scholarship, national identity card, job, all national facilities, marriage. Although this work has been delayed in stages, it is now being implemented to provide student profiles on the birth centenary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
According to the Ministry of Education and the Bangladesh Bureau of Education Information and Statistics (BANBASE), in 2016, the government took the initiative to create the first student profile and give a unique ID. The project titled ‘Formulation of Profiles of Secondary Level Students’ is planned to create profiles of students from sixth to twelfth class in the first phase. It was then that students of all levels were asked to be covered in phases. Work on the pilot project started in 9 regions in 2016. However, due to invisible reasons, the initiative was stuck there.
After a couple of years, it was announced to be implemented again in the middle of 2019. The government has taken initiative to provide database and unique IDs to students through a project undertaken by the Ministry of Education called ‘Education and Information Management Project’ run by Banbase at a cost of Taka 313 crore. However, it was not implemented. At that time, the plan was that if the student was 18 years old, his words would be added to the database of national identity cards. As a result, it will be easier to get his national identity card number. If the secondary level students have the right information, it will be easier for the government to make plans for them when they go to higher education in the future.
State Minister for Primary and Mass Education on the unique ID. Zakir Hossain said, “We have undertaken a separate project to facilitate and preserve the unique collection of students in primary schools.” Under this project, unique IDs of children of 60 schools in different parts of the country will be created as a pilot. If it is successful, all the students will be brought under it step by step. প্রাথমিক বিদ্যালয়ের শিক্ষার্থীরা পাবে ইউনিক এই আইডি বা একক পরিচয়পত্র
