The vaccination drive will begin today with the support of the World Health Organization, UNICEF and the Vaccine Alliance ( GAVI). Initially, this program will continue in Dhaka division. Later, the program will be implemented in eight divisions of Bangladesh in three phases. In the first phase in Dhaka, the program will run for a total of 18 days. In the first 10 days, vaccination will be done in educational institutions and permanent centers. After that, the vaccination will continue for eight days through regular EPI vaccination centers and permanent centers.
Students in classes 5 to 9 and girls between the ages of 10 and 14 who do not attend school can get the vaccine by registering on the Vaxepi app or the https://vaxepi.gov.bd/registration website. Earlier on October 2, Health and Family Welfare Minister Zahid Maleque inaugurated the vaccination program at a function organized by the Expanded Immunization Programme (EPI) of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) at Nipsom Auditorium in the capital.
SM Abdullah Al Murad, Program Manager of EPI, said, “We plan to ensure that 95 per cent of girls aged 10 to 14 years get the cervical vaccine. We will conduct this program across the country in three phases. We will announce the vaccination program subject to completion of the first phase and availability in phases.
“Each vial contains two doses of the vaccine, which will be given to two teenage girls. It is a one-dose vaccine, which is given to the muscles. The human papillomavirus vaccine has already been administered in 131 countries and the Cervix vaccine has been given in 24 countries. ’
