In this book, which has been changed after eight years, from the current academic year, students will have to read for the first time the lessons made on the biographies and achievements of Bangabandhu’s son Sheikh Kamal. Apart from this, the students of 11th will also have to read the lessons made by mountaineer Nishat Majumdar, Sataru Brijen Das, who crossed the English Channel, and the women footballers of Kalsindur village of Dhobaura in Mymensingh on various achievement aspects.
Based on a research report by the Institute of Education and Research of Dhaka University, the government has now arranged the English book of class XI with 13 chapters in the new curriculum. Seven chapters, including ‘Traffic Education’, have been dropped from the curriculum. The rest of the books have not been changed by the government. This information has been reported by the textbook board sources.
According to the new English book, in the chapter on lifestyle, students should read topics like ‘Manners Around the World, Food Trends, Fitness and Spending’. In the chapter titled ‘Youthful Achievers’, two lessons should be read about Bangabandhu’s son Sheikh Kamal. One of them is ‘Sheikh Kamal: Life of N Achievers’. The other one is ‘Aspectite, Lively and Olweiss Smiling Sheikh Kamal’. In these two lessons, Sheikh Kamal’s youth, Kamal’s contribution to the field of sports and the birth of Abahani have come up. In the third reading of this chapter, the famous swimmer Brijen Das should be read. Lesson 4 should be read ‘Scaling and Mountain Peak or Riding Your Dream’.
It talks about mountaineer Nishat Majumdar, Wasfia Nazreen conquering the mountain. Lesson five, ‘The Unbeatten Girls’, tells the story of the indomitable girls of Kalsindhur village of Dhobaura in Mymensingh; Those who won the football title and set the world on the table. The stories of their victory should be read in the English books of class 11. Similarly, new topics have been added to the rest of the new chapters, according to the textbook board. In the newly added chapter of ‘Relationships’, you should read the lessons named ‘Family Relations’, ‘Love and Friendship’. In the chapter titled ‘Art and Craft’, students should read the lessons titled ‘What is Beauty, Folk Music’ and ‘Our Art and Craft’.
The ongoing English book of Class XI was first published in 2014. Eight years later, in 2022, new English books are being given in this class. According to a research report by the Institute of Education and Research of Dhaka University, more than half of the chapters of the current English book of the 11th are not being read by the students. These chapters need to be changed. Basically, taking note of that report, the textbook board changed the English book of xi.
