The Detailed Area Plan (DAP) is a comprehensive plan for the development of land use in Dhaka City, Bangladesh. The plan is prepared by the Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (RAJUK), which is the city development authority responsible for planning and implementing urban development projects in the city.
The DAP is a long-term plan that aims to guide the physical development of the city over a period of 20 years. It covers a wide range of issues related to urban development such as land use zoning, transportation, housing, infrastructure provision, and environmental protection.
The DAP was first introduced in 1995 and has since been revised several times to adapt to changing circumstances and needs. The latest version of the plan, known as the ‘DAP 2016-2035’, was approved by the government in 2017.
The DAP 2016-2035 includes a number of key strategies and policies aimed at promoting sustainable development in the city. Some of the main features of the plan include:
Land use zoning: The plan divides the city into different zones based on land use, such as residential, commercial, industrial, and recreational. This helps to ensure that land is used in an efficient and appropriate manner.
Transportation: The plan includes provisions for improving public transportation systems such as bus rapid transit (BRT) and metro rail. It also promotes the use of non-motorized transport such as cycling and walking.
Housing: The plan aims to provide affordable housing for all residents of the city. This includes the development of low-cost housing schemes and the provision of basic services such as water and sanitation.
Infrastructure provision: The plan includes provisions for the development of basic infrastructure such as roads, drainage systems, and solid waste management facilities.
Environmental protection: The plan includes measures to protect the natural environment, such as the preservation of wetlands and the promotion of green spaces.
Overall, the DAP is an important tool for managing the physical development of Dhaka City. It provides a framework for sustainable development that can help to improve the quality of life for residents and promote economic growth in the city.
