The Ministry of Public Administration has finalized the list of public holidays in Bangladesh in 2024. The cabinet approved the holiday list today (November 2). According to the list, the Govt general holiday in 2024 is 14 days and the executive order holiday is eight days. There are a total of 22 general and executive order holidays, but there are seven weekly holidays on Friday and Saturday.

The approval was given in the weekly meeting of the cabinet held at the Prime Minister’s Office with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair. Cabinet Secretary Khandaker Anwarul Islam briefed reporters after the meeting. The Ministry of Public Administration will issue a notification in this regard subject to the approval of the cabinet. After that, the process of printing the calendar of 2024 will begin.

The cabinet secretary said there will be a total of 22 days of holidays, including 14 days of general holidays for the next year and eight public holidays in the executive order. Of these, seven days are holidays on Friday and Saturday weekends. The cabinet secretary said there are five optional holidays for Muslims, eight days for Hindus, eight days for Christians and five days for Buddhists. ’

List of general public holidays in 2024

The holidays are: February 21 Martyrs’ Day and International Mother Language Day, March 17, the birthday of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, March 26, Independence and National Day, May 1, May 7, Jumatul Bida, May 14 Eidul Fitr, May 26 Buddha Purnima (Boishakhi Purnima), July 21 Eidul Azha, August 15 National Mourning Day, August 30 Janmashtami. Durga Puja (Bijoya Dashami) on October 15, Eid Milad-un-Nabi (PBUH) on October 19, Victory Day on December 16 and Christmas Day on December 25.

List of holidays in the 2024 Executive Order

According to the executive order, April 29 will be Shabberat, April 14 April New Year, May 10, Sunday, 13 and 15 May before Eidul Fitr, July 20 and 22, before and next day of Eidul Azhar, and August 29 Ashura.

List of optional holidays in 2024

The optional holidays (Muslim episodes) are – the 12th of March Shababiraj, the 16th day on the third day of Eidul Fitr, 23th day on the third day of Eidul Azhar, 6th of October Akheri Chahar Swoba and 17th Fatehah-e-Yazdaham.

Apart from this, January 1 is the English New Year, February 17, Wednesday, April 1, Pure Friday, April 2 is April Pure Friday, April 3 is April Saturn, April 4 April Easter Sunday and December 24 and 26 Birthday of Jesus Christ (before and after Christmas) are optional holidays of the Christian episode.

The optional holidays (Buddhist parba) are – Maghi Purnima on January 28, Chaitra Sankranti on April 13, Ashadhi Purnima on July 23, Madhupurnima on September 20 and Prabarana Purnima (Ashwini Purnima) on October 20.

The list of public holidays in 2024 includes optional holidays for employees belonging to small ethnic groups in the Chittagong Hill Tracts and beyond: April 12 and 15, similar social festivals of Baisabi and other small ethnic groups of the Chittagong Hill Tracts.
