Government launches universal pension system
The government is introducing a universal pension system in the country. Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal said that universal pension is being introduced. He presented to reporters on Wednesday a summary of the strategy paper prepared by the finance department of the finance ministry in this regard. The finance minister said, “The introduction of the universal pension system is a gift from Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to the nation. The finance minister did not give a specific account of how much pension would be available in a month if he paid how much money. In response to the question, the Finance Minister gave an example. The Finance Minister said, “Suppose the monthly amount is Rs 1,000, the profit is 10 percent and the profit is 8 percent.
So, if someone starts giving money at the age of 18 and it continues till the age of 60, then the person will get a pension of Rs 64,776 per month till the age of 80 years after retirement. The Finance Minister further said, “If someone starts giving donations at the age of 30 and it continues till 60 years, he will get a pension of Rs 18,908 per month after retirement.” If the amount of the amount is more than 1,000 rupees, the amount of pension will also be more at a proportionate rate. However, this account is an estimate. The actual status will be known after the enactment of laws and regulations and the establishment of the pension authority.
The finance department presented the strategy paper on the universal pension system to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at Ganabhaban on Thursday. The prime minister directed the finance department to enact a law in this regard on the same day. Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal briefed reporters after a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Public Procurement on Wednesday.
The Finance Minister said, “You know many achievements of Bangladesh. Today, there is another achievement associated with that achievement. That’s the universal pension system. This pension system is for everyone. The pension system is laid down in Article 15 of our Constitution, for those who will be needed due to old age. Help will be needed for these needy. The right to receive this aid is a fundamental right of every citizen of the state. The needy citizens who may come or come in life due to old age will get a pension.
